[RESOLVED] need something like mysql_field_table() for fields not table

i'm looking for a PHP function to use for dynamically selecting table fields for insert/ update queries.

what should i be looking for in the manual? thanks!

this is for something else i'm working on-- i've finally figured out how to extract the CSV data i need from an Excel spreadsheet-- now i just need to figure out how to tell my queries to put it into the proper field, so i think i need this PHP function as mentioned above-- at least according to my current line of thought!

okay-- i found this: mysql_list_fields

which, i think, is what i need. what do i want to do w/ [LIKE 'name'] according to the syntax here:

mysql_query() to issue a SQL SHOW COLUMNS FROM table [LIKE 'name']

i figured out a workaround solution-- actually, i don't think the mysql_list_fields, although an effective query for some purpose, i'm sure, wasn't what i really needed. if you examine my code at the URL in my post #2 here, you'll see how i solved my issue of needing to use dynamic field names in my update query.
