looking for a point in the right direction.

i have a friend that owns a comic/fantasy game store.

he wants to take registrations online for in-store tourneys he's going to hold this year.

if i could only find a way to do what i need to do with regard to taking registrations for gaming tourneys online, having registrants pay for them online via paypal, then be able to have that registrants name be added to a dynmically filled list of all the folks that have registered.

can anyone offer any suggestions?

thanks in advance! i'm a designer by trade and know just enough about what php and mySQL can do to either a) get me in trouble or b) make experts like you mad in trying to do what YOU guys were/are trained to do and me mucking it up. 🙂

is there an open source package than can be modified in a way to make the above work?
is this a simple task? complicated task?

PayPal has a free simple-to-use cart system you might be able to take advantage of through their Website Payments program: https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_wp-standard-overview-outside

It would certainly take in all the needed info, but I'm not sure what kind of access you would get on the back end-- as far as running a report of who has registered for what tourney. I assume you could set them up as separate "products" and have the person add whatever tourney they want to the "cart"... but again I haven't played with it to know what you can do with it from there.

Other free shopping cart systems like Zen Cart and OsCommerce would be way overkill for what you're looking for.

Thanks for responding and definitely for your suggestion, albeit more a bit of objective reminder.

They have paypal set up for other purchases done through their online store, and we sorta kept this in the back of our minds as a "last-resort"

I'm hoping I come across something still that makes it a bit more streamlined. In the interim, I'll see what I can conjure up utilizing the offerings of our friends at PayPal.
