Determining if value is an Integer

I don't know why I can't figure this out...I'm sure it's right there I just can't grab a hold of it.

How can I determine if a number is a whole number or not...

Let's say I divide 98 by 50 I get 1.96

but now I divide 100 by 50 I get 2

How can I determin say

$value = 98 / 50;

is a decimal or whole number?

You can use is_float() and is_int()

Example:

<?
$value = 98 / 50;
echo $value . '<br>';
if(is_int($value)){ echo 'int'; }
elseif(is_float($value)){ echo 'float'; }
?>

This prints 'float'

And this...

<?
$value = 100 / 50;
echo $value . '<br>';
if(is_int($value)){ echo 'int'; }
elseif(is_float($value)){ echo 'float'; }
?>

Prints int.

Pretty straightforward stuff (needed to test it first though lol)

If you are trying to determine if $a is perfectly divisible by $b (as opposed to if $a/$b is an integer), then you should use:
$a % $b == 0
