AJAX help needed

Hey,

I am looking to do something so simple it's unbelievable. I just don't know how to do it in AJAX. Here is what I want to do. I want to have a box where the user starts typing something. Then there is a selection box under that, that will populate with everything that matches it.

Such as: http://ajax.zervaas.com.au/examples/GoogleSuggestCloneJax/

But instead of it showing up under the box, to show all the answers in a select box. Can anyone show me how to do that? I am just so confused.
