PHP Cookies Won't Die

I've created a login system for a site I'm building. The login itself works nicely, it sets the cookie and forwards them to the proper page. I then check the cookie at this page and return its value which is all working fine.

The problem I have is on logout. I can't seem to kill the cookie no matter what I do. I've tried setting it to a time in the past. I've tried setting it to a different value, but the value won't change. I've even tried the following: setcookie("cookie_login", "", 0, "", "", 0);

After I kill the cookie, I forward them back to the main page, but the main page is saying they're still logged in. How can I remedy this?

This is a common problem in IE, you have to close the browser to get rid of the cookies.

I suggest you switch to a session system.

First off, goldlikesnow's comment is not completely accurate. You might want to ignore it.

Review the manual for setcookie

Example 2 in the manual shows how to expire a cookie by using a negative time. Using 0 just means that the cookie expires when the browser is closed.

If you still have problems then use to browser's internal commands to see if the cookie was actually deleted. It could be that your main page code is incorrectly reporting that the cookie still exists.
