dollars and significant digits

This is for an IPN script.

Question is if php will recognize dollars and cents/decimal (or two significant digits)when rounded to the whole number.

Will:

if ($amount > 35.00) {

mean the same as:

if ($amount > 35) {

Where an amount such as 35.00 is inserting to the table. Which could be rounded to the whole number at ".00" or not like 37.75"

Column is varchar type

Well, yes, it will, because to PHP those are the same. Does it really matter though? If you have 35 dollars, you have the same amount as 35 dollars and no cents...

Use [man]round[/man] to round math computations back to 2 decimals (currency) and then run that float through [man]number_format[/man] if you want to be fancy and add commas and whatnot.

No, I misread your post earlier. I meant if you're doing operations like multiplying or anything that might give you more than 2 decimal places, you can use round($amount, 2) to get back to 2 decimals.
