Need help with my website

I am a beginer when it comes to php. I have a website called www.GreatHomeLiving.com it is a Real-Estate website I have it setup for people to list there homes for free but what I am running into is that when a person signs up on my site they have to wait for me to activate there account before they can post there listings and people don't like to wait so they just don't put there homes on my site.

What I need is for some one to help me make the site automated so I don't have to do anything and the people can list there homes with out waiting for me to activate the account.

If anyone can help me I would be greatful

You could simply insert the details into the database and send an email notification to them displaying their username/password and leave out the activation for now. That way they are immediately activated and have access to uploading information.

That way you would get your site up and running with homes listed. At a later date, if you find that users are registering but not logging in, then you can re-evaluate what you need to do and then consider the activation process.

I would use what kriscons mentioned above. A simple sign up form that requires an email address and whatever other info you want to retain in a database. When they click submit update the database w/ their info, send an automated email to the new user with a username ex. email addreesss and password ex lastname. They can then login to your site and have the ability to advertise there homes. Its all about automation, having the code do the work for you.

That sounds good to me but I don't know how to do it. Is there anyone on this board that can show me or help me make this happen

how do you activate the account? i assume that your site is database driven including the sign up page . If there is a field in your table for active / inactive (true or false / 1 or 0) just make your field default to 1 or true if this means activate . So that will make auto activation

I would just strip a peice of code from the phpbb forums with the user activation. What it does when a user registers on your site and hit submit it will tell them you are registered but check thier mail to activate thier account. This email wll still contain thier password and username, but it will also include a link they have to click on to active thier account. This method will do several things. It will keep bots from spamming your site and will help with the security of your site. It will also save your DB space somewhat from non-serious users that sign up and not use your services. Because it will gie them 48hrs to activate the account or it will be deleted from the DB. Now this email will be sent ASAP once they hit submit from the registration page so thier will be no waiting. They just have to take the extra step in checking thier mail. This will also help in making sure you are getting humans registering. Just an idea and how I would go about it. Instead of you activating them, they activate themselfs.

Yea give me a few and I will strip the code I have unless someone else beats me to it. Of course you will have to plug in your details I.E. database, form, etc.

I don't know how to do that iether. Do you know if there is anyone that can walk me threw it. I know if I have someone telling me where to go and what to do I can get it done. I am a quick learner.

thank you for the info that is just what I am looking for but I don't know how to put it in my website. I did'nt know what was it would take to do it but it looks like it is way to much for me to do. But thank you anyways
