Hi hope you can help…..

I have created a database and I was wondering if it was possible to do the following. Using the example data below is it possible to create a query that will only pull out: Purple, Blue, Green and Red from that table. Please bear in mind that I have maybe over 100 unique values in over 1000 entries (100 different colours divided between over 1000 entries)…

Yes. Think along the lines of using DISTINCT or GROUP BY.

You could also try the LIKE comparison.

$sql ="SELECT color FROM tableName WHERE value LIKE purple OR green OR red OR blue";

The like will not work as requested, unless you know all the 'distinct' colors. Actually.. 'LIKE' is only really usefull if you do not know the exact string your are looking for in the database.

In this case I'd avoid it.
