what do these guys do? http://vtc.com/
i recall... someone once telling me that they bought a subscription thinking that they were going to d/l a ton of stuff for later viewing, but realized upon viewing the material that it was "impossible" to obtain a local copy-- even with software such as URL helper and... well, i don't recall at this point what the other software supplement is... but i know he said it was unsuccessful.
i realize that streaming media and PDF's of course are two completely different things, but i thought that perhaps a one could implement a similar "URL masking" technology.
turns out, looks like my partner wants to e-mail these materials anyway-- what although a convenience to the subscriber, i'm not so sure it it's the best idea. it's really hard to say i guess. i suppose time will tell-- if we keep letting it out of our hands, and we continue having members who renew their subscriptions monthly, then i suppose it's not an issue. if the renewals drop off, then maybe we have something to worry about!
thaks for the help.
oh. re: div's
are you talking about some kind of z-index trickery, or ... ? i don't recall ever hearing of anything like that-- hmm... although i do recall having some probs w/ <a href>'s in the past when i had them misplaced in the wrong div... outside of the wrapper or something. off the top of my head, i can't think how that would work exactly. i'm sure if i toyed w/ it a bit, it would come to me. i know it wasn't a z-index issue when i had the problem, but i'm thinking something could intentionally be done w/ that. no?
