Hello,
Ive connected to my own personal MySQL server recently but here at work its a different story...

The use a unix based system and I cant get the php to connect to it... when we connect in cmd prompt it works fine. Seems as though they are using monet over a free BSD so in command prompt we say "open monet.bestweb.net" then it asks for our login and then the database name.. no problem Well i tried that with the php and it didnt work and ideas on why it wont work? and are there any alternatives? Thanks for your help

are you using localhost or your host name for the calling address in PHP? mysql by default is only set to listen to requests from localhost...

Ive tried localhost monet.bestweb.bet and bestweb.net none worked. and I know the code is write cause i dont get any scripting errors.... so do you think it could be a port issue?

what is the error you are getting when you try to connect?

use

SHOW VARIABLES;

from the command line and one of the many things there is the port number, you'll at least then know if that is the issue.

I tried your suggestion in the php code and the cmd prompt but nothing happened... when I put it in the php code the error message for connecting disappeared and nothing displayed at all when I did it in cmd prompt it said command not found... am I doing something wrong?

You need to be logged in to the mysql server on the command line before you run the command.

Well i found what you were talking about and the port is the same that we were using... so im at a lost, Ill have to call the hosting company thanks anyways.. Im open to other suggestions if you have them Thanks
