[RESOLVED] Preg match problem

Hi all!

It's been ages since I've used regular expressions, and I really need some help with preg_match.

I've written the following code, to try and match a string like "CLASS=prom>A word goes here</A>":

preg_match("(CLASS=prom>)(.+)(</A>)", htmlspecialchars($line), $matches);

When I try it though, it doesn't return anything. Could anyone help please?

First things first, if you're using htmlspecialchars, then they will no longer be < and > but &lt; and &gt;

Heres what you should have:

preg_match("#CLASS=prom>(.+?)</A>#is", htmlspecialchars($line), $matches); 

That should work for you

I tried what you said on something else buy struggled to get it to work again...

I have the following string, "html' CLASS=prom>Word Here</A>". The thing is, I just want "Word Here" to be left, so I went about creating a regular expression and made this:

preg_match("#(^html' CLASS=prom>)(.+?)(^</A>)#is", $matchesfin, $matches2);

Unfortunately it didn't work.

Anyone got any ideas?

Use the one I gave before, and reference $matches[1]; - This is the part of the array that has the match.

I've got the following code at the moment...

			$list = preg_match("#(^html' CLASS=prom>)(.+?)(^</A>)#is", $matchesfin, $matches2);
			echo $matches2[0];

But nothing is returned.

No no, the one that I gave you

$line= 'html\' CLASS=prom>Word Here</A>';
preg_match("#CLASS=prom&gt;(.+?)&lt;/A&gt;#is", htmlspecialchars($line), $matches); 
echo $matches[1];

I need to make it so "Word Here" is the only thing echoed though. That won't do it, will it?

Well then you want to look at [man]preg_replace[/man], replacing the whole string with just part of it.
