change maximum file upload size

Thank you very much for any help or advice.

I have a simple file upload script. I want to know, is there any way to alter the maximum file upload size?

I am uploading some high-res images, and resizing it (making a thumbnail image from it and a 600x600 image from it) - and not keeping the original high-res copy stored in the temporary location.

as for php, max upload size can be changed in php.ini.
http://www.php.net/manual/en/ini.core.php#ini.upload-max-filesize
