what does this error mean?

I have an image upload script. The script is in Java, but once the files are in temp memory, php is used to resize them and save them to the rigth location. I get this error off and on - this time it was with a 16mb upload (I've done bigger successfully). Any ideas as to the source of the problem?

Server Disconnected: Connection reset by peer: socket write error

That looks like a Java error message, maybe the upload took too long and timed out.

Yeah that's what I thought to but all the php timeout values are set to the max - does Java have timout values too? And it is surprising since I have managed to upload bigger files before...

It'd have to do with Java timeouts, I'm not sure, I haven't used java for a little while, and haven't uploaded things with it. The size of the file doesn't necessarily matter, as you might have had a faster connection when you were uploading larger files.

Okay so I checked every changeable parameter for the applet in terms of max execution time, max file size, etc. and put everything way large so it wouldn't bug me, but I still have the same problem. it does not seem to be timeout though, because the length of time before the error occurs is unpredictable... could this be a problem with the applet? its freeware, so it could well have bugs.

any ideas on good reliable php multi-image upload scritps? ( I really like the aurigma.com one but its not free).
