Problem - Php in Linux

Hello everyone,

I am new here, a newbie. I would like to learn php using ubuntu and finished installed it. I like the book am reading now, it is totally great.

Beginning PHP, Apache,
MySQL® Web Development

the book said you guys are mod of this forums that's why i came here..

My problem in ubuntu is i don't know where can view my testing.php, i know its in htdocs...i test the http://localhost/, then it splash the screen of xampp (it's a third party) and it's working and no problem in apache, mysql, and php..

in windows, http://localhost/testing.php are working..but don't how to test it in linux ubuntu..and said that apache is work more faster in linux..

i mean pls just give some idea to test my work, and rest is mine.. or just give me some links....i know that's a good started like me..

If the name of the file is testing.php, then you will need to place it in your htdocs folder and view it via...

http://localhost/testing.php

yeah, but when copy it to htdocs and test it , i don't remember its view like this..

just like opening in gedit..

i think the view is like this..

how can fix that?

Sounds like php isn't working properly. Try this simple test. Create a file called info.php and place the following in it.

<?php

phpinfo();

?>

Place this file in your htdocs folder.... then browse to http://localhost/info.php. You should see a big table full of all your php configuration settings.

yeah, i placed it in htdocs folder..i copy it..then
home> sudo /opt/lampp/lampp start (to start xampp)

home> sudo cp info.php /op/lampp/htdocs, then http://localhost/info.php

and this a view of a result:

?php phpinfo(); ?>

it suppose to be the table of php..

how can fix this?

and add to info: i have this error after installing..

gzip: stdin: invalid compressed data--crc error
tar: Child returned status 1
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors

please help me...
