prob with session paths

I'm having trouble with session paths (I think)

i have a site with the index.php page at root of the server with the rest of the site in a sub-folder "/site/"

the session in the index.php page works fine but when i open a page in the folder /site/ i get these error messages

can anyone tell me what this means please, and what i can do about it - I'm completely stumped !!

Sounds like you can't write to the tmp folder. THat's because of one of two things:
1.) THe temp folder [/home/httpd/vhosts/www.vincentdepaul84.com/tmp] is missing
2.) THe php user doesn't have the right permissions to the folder, and can't write to it.

I'm going to guess it's the first of the two, but just double check both.

I've just got the server admin guy to send me the phpinfo output for their server and in the line

session.save_path

they've got "/tmp"

does this mean that the php pages are looking for a tmp folder at their level of the server ?

do you think that this should be an absolute path instead of a relative path ?

no, in the document root of the server should be a "tmp" folder that the PHP user can write to. That's what sessions and such are stored in. That folder has to be there, otherwise the sessions won't work.
