Using PHP to unwrap text?

Howdy, PHPBuilders!

I've searched through this and other forums, the 'net in general, and php.net, but can't seem to find anything about this.

Is there a way to use PHP to unwrap text?

F'rinstance, if I had the following phrase dropped into a form field:

The quick brown
fox jumps over
the lazy dog

. . . is there any PHP voodoo I can use to, either instantly in the form field, or through submitting the form, convert it to this?

The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog

For some quick background, please know that my PHP knowledge is likely amoeba-like compared to yours. 😃 Let's just leave it at that.

I'm guessing something like:

$string = "The quick brown fox
jumps over
the lazy
dog";

$nstring = str_replace("\n", '', $string);

echo $nstring;

Something to that effect where you replace any new-line character (\n, \r, \r\n) with nothing ('')
