A like-[del.icio.us] members area

Hello everyone,

BTW it s my first post on phpbuilder.com so thanks for welcoming me in the community.

My question is quite vast, as must be the answer(s) / I hope to be on the right topic though.
I d like to create a 'delicious-like' members area - have you ever noticed that registering on delicious creates your own page, i.e. http://del.icio.us/member_name, and doesn t create a http://del.icio.us/php?name=member_name (using a $_GET).

So here is the question : is this possible with php, or only with API (the application the owners say they use)? More largely, how does this site manage the sessions of its registered users, identifies them once they re connected...and what are the issues with security (doesn t seem to have any end_session set up either) ?

Does someone knows enough on that to clarify how it works ?

You'll want to take a look at apache's mod_rewrite module.

As for the framework used by del.icio.us, I think you'll find there speaking of there javascript framework which is great for building ajax and dhtml applications.

Thanks for the reply. And "mod_rewrite" was exactly what I needed...

I got a look at the javascript information and there are pretty usefull. But I'd like to know a little more about the global construction of the site : what does the API application stand for ? What is the advantage of such a solution ?
