Generate HTML files

Hi all
I have seen lots of websites, which are running PHP, and they are database driven. But when you surf the site, you can see only HTML files (I mean the pages extensions are .htm). How can I have this facility on my own site? Do I need to have a dedicated server to achieve this?

Search google, for apache mod_rewrite. This really has nothing to do with php.

If you're using apache server you can add the .htm extension to this line in httpd.conf. If you don't have access to httpd.conf i believe you create also create a .htaccess file in your document root and include this line.

AddType application/x-httpd-php .php .htm

It also has nothing to do with mod_rewite.

Ok, So he wants to be able to run PHP with a database, lets continue.

Ok, well you could either use mod_rewrite, or force php to recognize .htm and .html files.

I simpily offered him an easy solution, this way, he can pass param's to the page without having to have nasty query strings attached to it.

How'd i know someone was gonna come behind me and start a debate ..

if you just want to use a .htm instead of a .php extension then this is what you need:

AddType application/x-httpd-php .php .htm

You can add any extension you want

AddType application/x-httpd-php .php .htm .aew .ass .knob .fuk

Yeah, but what about when he needs to pass strings to the .htm file?

People are going to obviously know that its not a real HTML file
Using mod_rewrite, he can gain higher search engine rankings, give users clean URL's, and keep a .html file at the end, at all times.

Once again, somthing you cannot do with php alone.
