[RESOLVED] can't upload to apache owned folder!

i create folders on my clients admin site with php, and then i need to upload the files. but for some reason it wont let me upload into theses folders owned by apache!

i've tried chmod('/home/virtual/site305/fst/var/www/html/directorfolders/'.$directorfolder, 0777);

which makes them 777, but still no joy! Also i can't change permissions with my ftp programme?!

here is the upload path
$uploaddir = '/home/virtual/site305/fst/var/www/html/directorfolders/'.$directorfolder.'/';

i can upload to /home/virtual/site305/fst/var/www/html/directorfolders/ without any probs! any ideas?

created a folder with ftp instead!

This is a common problem. The reason you can't change permissions is because PHP is in Safe Mode and won't allow any modification of any script/folder unless you are the owner. Since the PHP user created the directory (not the script) then it fails. Kind of sucks. The one way around that is the FTP version (which I prefer because I can specify who is the owner).

You could also have tried chown()ing the directory to see if you can change the owner. But normally, you have to get your host to delete the directory and you re-create it via FTP. Glad to hear you got it sorted though!!
