Database on another server.

Hi.

At present, the webserver I am using has the webserver (IIS i believe) and mySQL database on the same machine. It has become necessary for me to move the database to a new server, however keeping the website on the existing server is also quite important.

Can someone please give advise on what to do?

I think I need to set up mySQL on the new server, then change the host name to the IP address of the new server. Is this correct?

What other complications will I need to take into consideration?

Keep in mind which port you tell MySQL to run on (usually 3306), and remember to watch out for firewalls blocking the web server's access to the database. You may also need to create a MySQL user for the web server to use. Frequently local installs only setup [e-mail]. You will need a user that matches the web servers incoming request. Something like 'mywebapp'@'myweb.server.com'. You can also "wildcard" the host portion, 'mywebapp'@'%'. See the MySQL documentation.
