Problem with custom error pages

Hi everyone

this is my .htaccess file:

ErrorDocument 404 http://www.myurl.co.uk/404.php

It is uploaded to the top directory on my server.

When i go to a non existant URL

e.g http://www.myurl.co.uk/nonexistant.htm then I get redirected

if it has a PHP extension e.g

http://www.murl.co.uk/nonexistant.php I do not get my custom error page showing.

What am I doing wrong?

Try that. It should not matter but yea.

If this is the whole .htaccess than that is weird never seen that before. I would try that first. If it does not work, well I am out of ideas there. Make sure there isn't something else that could be overriding the error document line.

I have spoken to my hosts (1and1) and they say that custom error pages do not support PHP???????

I am sure they are wrong. anyway I will give that a try and let you know.
