Disable Download

I have a web site which provide some content using Flash.
I want to protect the flash file, disallow people from downloading.
Any idea how to do it ?
should i use client side javascript ? or control in server side ?

Store the file outside of your web path.

I think I have found the solution.
By not displaying MyFile.swf, user should not be able to know the location of the Flash File.

This maybe out of the topic... But hope someone can help

I am creating an eductional application using open source Logicampus.
By using Web Based WYSIWYG editor ( HTMLArea ), i can create Lesson Content.
There is a custom button called Embed Flash that should create all these code, but it doesn't work.

Any done this before ? Embed a flash inside the HTMLArea ?

As long as your flash file is in the web path, it can be downloaded with a little creative browsing. Honestly, if your directory structure looks like this:

home->public_html->images

Where, index.php would be in your public_html, you can store the flash file in 'home' and reference it by '../file.swf'. It's not accessible through the web, but your index file will still be able to access it.

You can't stop people from downloading your flash, however, you can stop it from working if people download it.

I don't really know much about flash, but can't you put a command in Actionscript which checks the host name it's coming from, and stops the movie from running if it's not on the host it's supposed to be?

Of course it won't stop someone willing to decompile the Flash though.

If you want the flash to be displayed, it is impossible to keep them from downloading it. Mainly because it is in their Temporary Internet Files.

If you do not want them to have it...well do not display it to them.
