This is maybe more of a general dhtml question than specifically a php one... but I can't seem to find a solution. You are my last hope!
I have an html web form that has pulldown (<select><option>) type form elements in it.
I want / need to build a layer ( A div or an iframe ) that can be turned visable which hovers over it... It will act as a pop up control for filling out other parts of the form. and then close, allow the user to fill out hte form and go on his way.
I'm doing this to avoid using an acutal POPUP in a new window because the client does not want any popups for fear they will get lost behind the main window or be lost to popup blockers.
I have tried using a <div> tag to place my "layer popup tools" in, and it works fine in firefox and other browsers, but IE has that lame problem where html pulldown form elements will not pay attention to the z-index on the layers and the pulldown will "show through" the layer. This is not going to work if I can't make the layer coverup what is below it, especially those pulldowns on the form below it.
I have scoured the web looking for solutions to this, and have to my dismay found mostly other frustrated web designers who have had the same problem, but found no answer.
I think that iframes will cover the pulldowns, but I have not been able to place things in these iframes (or maybe I am doing it wrong) and I am not sure if iframes is very cross-browser compatable. I would like my solution to work in at least IE and in firefox. if it fails in netscape I am not too worried.
anyone know of any tricks to make this work? has anyone ever had this issue before?
thanks
