[RESOLVED] files displayed randomly... help!

I am trying to make a picture gallery that displays small gifs that you can click on to pop up the larger jpg in a new window, but for some reason it doesn't find the files in any particular order. It is the same every time, but it's not in order.
I copied a model program on my server for anyone to look at here:

I am wondering if it is a problem with php or my server, because I can use the same script in one other folder on my server and it works perfectly.

You can sort the array of files from the directory. This can be simply achieved with [man]sort()[/man]. This way you'll have the files in alphabetical order.

I'm still confused as to why they were completely random and the other folder was in order... any clues? It doesn't really matter much now, but I'm still curious. 🙂

It would be the order in which the files were copied into the directory. It just so happened that in one of the directories, the files had been copied in the same order as you wanted them displayed.

ah, I see. Is there a way to customize the order of the files in the directory instead of having them in the order of creation?

A little off the original topic, where's a good place to learn MySQL? I think I'm doing pretty good, for the most part, with PHP and want to get into the whole database thing instead of using text files for everything. 🙂

Not practically: usually it's a whole lot simpler to just assume they're unordered, and then sort them by whichever criterion you want to use at the time.
