textbox value

hi
i have two textfields text1 and text2. i enter a value in text1 field suppose 2006-1-1 like that so the text2 will have to take the value X2006. Not beyond that. like text2 should not accept less than any value in the year 2006 no 2005 should not be taken.

for example i enter value in text1 2000-01-01 date and text2 should accept any character in A-Zand 2000
ex:X2000.

how to do it?

make text2 a drop-down list with A-Z in it, and append that to the year of the text1

have done with substring function
fetched the above textfield value and passed its value to the next value and its working.
