splitting large file into seperate require() files

I had 1 main index.php file with code for all the functions together. Now I have 1 main file which just joins the seperate files together using require('file.php'). It is now easier to debug and read.

Would just like to know if this is ok to do and there are no performance issues etc?

Not much of one -- the slowest performance in any system is disk read/write -- because it's generally a physical action; the disk has to move the head and access the file. So, technically, the more files you open, the more of a performance hit. Two files ain't a big deal, though, so I wouldn't worry about it at all. If it's easier for maintenance and readability, that'd definitely outweigh the cons here.
