What your thought on adodb ?

Im using it since 3 years now, and I wonder what other think about it. For perfomance and usability.

If you used it and dropped it and why.. .

Also, should I concider pdo now ?

I have used ADODB several years in Visual Basic 6 and in ASP and I have never had any problems. I have not ever used it with PHP.

I am sure you know that ADODB has been replaced with ADO.Net, but I don't think PHP has support for ADO.Net yet although I understand they are working on it.

I haven't use ADO.Net at all.

As for PDO, I don't have any idea what that is.

I guess my main thought would be: if you have something that is working and you know it well, why would you want to switch to something you don't know and would have to take time to learn.

I would only do that if there was some substantial benefit to be gained.

hehe I mean the php database library called adodb : http://adodb.sourceforge.net/

Not ms activex data object. I would not recommend using any old com object or .net with php for performance reason.

ADODB for PHP is not Microsoft ADO, which is also sometimes called ADODB.

The makers and users of ADODB are misguided:
- It reinvents the wheel - we already have PEAR:😃B and that's shipped with PHP.
- It has a name which is deliberately confusing.

Moreover, new applications targetted at PHP 5.1 + should really be using PDO. This is built into PHP (not even a "require" required), and may have other advantages.

We don't need yet another database access layer. It solves nothing. Use PDO.
