session_start() keeps creating new sessions...

Hi all,

I have tried to search this topic, there were similar entries but I can't find the solution.

Every time I call session_start() on a page (without restarting browser or anything), a new session keeps on getting created. This is really weird. And now I can't use session variables since every time I try to call this function I am in a new session! Filesystem and path permissions are all alright, I just keep on seeing sess_* files getting created for refreshing the same page! I am running PHP 4.3.9, and the settings for session are:

well honestly.. lets see your pages code. You really should be calling session_start() ONCE. and not every page.

So lets see your code and go from there. Perhaps we can re-work it for ya and figure out how to not cause it.

If you are trying to see if they have a session do a if statment like

if(isset($_SESSION['id'])){ //where ['id'] = what ever you gave the session name
some command
} 
else session_start
