Send TXT message with PHP mail() - change the "From"?

Anyone else tackled this?

I know its possibly and easy to send TXT messages using [e-mail] (for Verizon anyway). The problem is that when it comes in, the "Reply-To" address is a mess. It's assigned by my server, and I can't see to change it. This is what I've tried so far:

mail("[e-mail],","testing","hello there!","Return-Path: [e-mail]\r\nReply-To: [e-mail]\r\nFrom: [e-mail]")

It comes through perfectly in Gmail and Outlook, with the proper "From:" and "Reply-To:", but on my phone, its still a mess. The "Return-Path" doesn't seem to be updating, and Gmail seems to be flagging it for spam when I try to change that part of the header.

Anyone had experience with this? I'd like the person who recieves the TXT message to just hit "reply" on their phone and send a picture back without having to retype an address, but nothing I do seems to work. Any ideas?

from past experience, the email->txt services mash the headers so the reply txt and be converted back to an email at the gateway, rather than a reply email.

email hits the service, gets converted to a txt and has the txt reply header altered. User gets txt, replies with txt back to the service. service checks against incoming messages, converts to email and sends reply. So the message the user gets is not an email, it's a txt, and they can't reply to email from txt.

Verizon may be different...

Well, when the TXT I send using PHP gets to my phone, the return address is "[e-mail]". It does allow me to reply to this address with a picture message (which is exactly what I want), except that the reply-to address is wrong. Whatever I do doesn't seem to make it come through correctly on Verizon.

I don't know a ton about mail servers and gateways and headers and delivering those headers via PHP. PHP inserts some default headers, I assume, and for some reason I can't overwrite them. Any ideas?

Anyone? Anyone? I guess my question is... how do I override the default headers to get that "ns1.hostaddress.com" out of there? Is it possible to define the entire header, or will my host always insert their address somewhere in there?

Does Verizon have any idea? It's their system, after all; you'd think they'd provide documentation - or at least assistance.
