Rename File if Exists auto Number

Dear All

I'm upload a file say file.gif
and say another user also upload the file.gif

what i need to do is the another person who uploads, the file name changes to file[1].gif and so on file[2].gif.... file[10].gif

So my question is how to auto increment renaming of these files.

Its a quite tricky one... any help on this would b gr8...

You can avoid duplicate names by taking say, a SHA1 hash (e.g. with [man]sha1/man ) of the incoming filename with the current time.
