[RESOLVED] check box values

If my form has check boxes which have a value of "xyz = Yes" whe they are checked for example, and I write it to a DB with an INSERT INTO statement, when I run a SELECT statement to review the form contents, all of the text fields populate, but the check boxes are unchecked.

I double checked the DB for the output if the box is checked, and its there.

Any ideas?

Lets just say you have a check box with a 1 value for this example.
You will place a check statement in the tag.

<input type="checkbox" name="field1" value="1" <?php if ($row['field1']==1) echo "checked";?> >

Now that it works, just one more little thing.

Here's the flow of things:

I partially fill out a new form. My form requires another dept to complete though. So I check the checkboxes next to the items still needed and submit.

The next dept. opens the form and should see what I've partially completed. This works perfect. The only trouble is I can't mark the checkboxes as read only. Disabled isn't really an option, though it does work, because it grays out the box. What I need is the box to return checked BUT also be read only. It doesn't look possible from what I've read so far. Also looks like PHP ignores a readonly="true" statement in the tags.

Any ideas?

you need to place a hidden tag thet will act as the checkbox.

if (val == 1) {
echo "<input type\"hidden\" name=\"field\" value=\"val\">\n";
} else {
echo "<input type\"checkbox\" name=\"field\" value=\"val\">\n";
}

And this will still show the checkbox selected (from the php you already suggested above to echo "checked"), but in a read only state?

anytime you disable a checkbox, it will not show as checked. That is why you need a hidden tag to hold its value while the checkbox is in disable state.
