[RESOLVED] Change scotland to Scotland

On my forum I installed the country flags mod and its working fine, but when users post etc there countrys are like this: scotland, netherlands, germany, uk etc. How can I make it so they show as Scotland, Netherlands, Germany, UK etc as it makes it look much neater 🙂

You have two options, really. CSS has the capabilities of capitalizing the first letter (it's a text-transform attribute, I believe?), or you can use the [man]ucfirst/man function as linked above.

If you visited the manual page, it really is very self-explanatory. The function takes one parameter - the string you wish to convert the first character to. In this case, that's the country name.

I'm not sure how the mod is worked, but either on the input when it stores it in the database or when it retrieves it and displays it, you simply need to alter it to:

echo "Country: " . ucfirst($their_country) . "<br>
...";

So which file would it be I would edit it in to make it have capitals when you view it in the posts and the profile???

And which code im i putting in and were??

(sorry to be a bother I just dont want to muck anything up, and with people guiding me through it I can learn from it 🙂 )

Again, I don't know what mod you installed nor how it was installed, but look back through the mod's instructions. Look at the places you edited. Look for echo/print statements, and see if you recognize where it's at (look at the surrounding echo'd lines... should give you a hint).

Once you find the place where the board displays the country in an echo/print statement, change it from echo'ing just the variable to using the function as shown above.

Give it a shot. Backup the files you're about to edit before you do so and just jump right in and start trying things. Worst thing you can do is guess wrong and have to revert to the backup and start guessing again.

Thats the mod there, ill look through it but im quite hazey on what im looking for as im quite a n00b at this. If you can could you look and tell me wat file to edit and were and with what please? If not I understand

So like in the mod there bits that say this:

No. Look down further and you'll see something like:

echo 'Country: '.$r['user_country'].'<br>'

That's where you need to edit...

You need to make that change to possibly a few other spots, but just follow the install log, and you'll see where it adds the flag (or country name) and that's where you edit.

Or you can edit functions.php and where it does the initial insert of the country name, just uppercase the first letter (using ucfirst()) before the insert.

OK i edited that line in ViewTopic and it changed it in the profile were you choose your country, they're all capital letters, but its not changed in posts and viewing someones profile. Which files would it be that I look for the $postrow[$i]['user_country'] line in to edit it to ucfirst($postrow[$i]['user_country']) so they show as capital in posts and profile viewing???

that would be in the individual view_profile.php and view_post.php pages....

Hmmm, i cant seem to find thoses files m8.

I found viewtopic_body.tpl, profileview_body.tpl, posting_body.tpl

Would it be any of them??

OK, ive got the viewtopic_body.tpl open, and I found this:

Country: {postrow.POSTER_COUNTRY}

So what would I do the changes to??

OK, I think ive fixed it 🙂 The are showing like Scotland, Germany etc but....

For some reason I dont think the flags are showing right, and I right clicked and props to see were it was trying to find and the directory it was finding was there and the files were there and I have Chmoded that directory and all its files to 0777. But there still now showing.

Any idea why the flag images arent showing now??

could be the names need scotland.gif and not Scotland.gif. Try changing the name and see what happens.

I changed all the file names of the images to capitals and that worked
