Help me get it going, please..

OK, I've installed "XAMPP for Windows Version 1.5.1"

I get the following message on the XAMPP for Windows page:

Welcome to XAMPP for Windows Version 1.5.1
Congratulations:
You successfully installed XAMPP on this system!
Now you can start using Apache and Co. Firstly you should try »Status« on the left navigation to make sure everything works fine.

My XAMPP Status:

MySQL database ACTIVATED

PHP ACTIVATED

HTTPS (SSL) ACTIVATED

Common Gateway Interface (CGI) ACTIVATED

Server Side Includes (SSI) DEACTIVATED

SMTP Service DEACTIVATED

FTP Service ACTIVATED

I also have "phpMyAdmin 2.7.0-pl1" working.

I' ve done a couple test pages with a php script. When I upload them to my webserver (my markdown.com), the php pages show fine.
When I try to see them before they are uploaded, I can't.

I am using PHP Designer 2006, I did a small page with a php script, just to test it, and when I click on the drop down arrow next to "localhost" I get a list for four browsers. Explorer, Netscape, Firefox and opera. When I click on any of them I Get an error message "no browser found". When I click on that, I get an "Editor preferences" Window, wtih "external browsers" with the ones I mentioned above and with empty fields next to them. What am I suppose to enter in there?
How can I see my php pages on the local, before I upload them?

Can somebody help please!!!

Never used Xampp so most of your post is hogwash to me. But, on an apache server by default your server root will be a directory named htdocs. Just place your file in there, then open your browser and type...

http://localhost/yourfile.php

in the address bar.

Still need some help to configure those browsers in the "PHP Designer 2006", so I can preview my pages on the local system directly from that program.

Any advise will be appreciated.

ok, honestly, don't bother with the internal browser or whatever. keep opera open and just refresh. that's what i do. you'll be fine from then on.

i use XAMPP myself so if you want any help i can try to help you out a little

To set up PHP Designer 2006 just click the Options then Editor Preferences then click the browsers folder and then you browse to the file where the browsers that you have installed (Program Files) like Internet Explorer and Firefox if you have it and any other like Opera. It's that easy, but the FTP part sucks so I use HTML kit for that, you also have to show PHP designer where the php.exe is on your server.

haha, i've used that when it was the way old version. it was great because it would load up in seconds and you could check your code within the little inhouse browser. but i've since upgraded to komodo because Komodo was more like Visual Studio.NET. which in turn i LOVE :lol:

I wanna thank everyone for your help.

I've got the I.E. browser working, but not the Firefox. I followed the same procedure as I did with th I.E. on the preferences--> browsers Panel:

C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe
C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe

The first works.
The Firefox gives me an alert that says: "c is not a registered protocol"

Now, can somebody tell me what goes in the Preferences --> Debug fields?
And what is the reason for the "debug" option?

PHP Interpeter: --> tell me what goes here<--

Settings - use php.ini: --> tell me what goes here<--

On the localhost "server path" I have "http://localhost"

And on the localhost ,"Local server path", "c:\program files\xampp\htdocs\"

O.K partner, I got it!! It works!!!

I have a very plain test page called welcome.php
I want to add an include page with a small menu.
How do I get to put it in the include folder on the right with the PHP Designer 2006?
On the document Treeview on the right I have the "welcome.php" and then four folders below:

include
include_once
require
require_once

I wanna add that menu that you see on top in an include file in the PHP Designer 2006. How?

Looking at your site your page includes would come right after the

You would then add the left nav.php or whatever you call it for the links on the left then your main.php or whatever you call it for the center main content and of course the right nav.php or the other links that you show on that site, then the footer.php. What you have so far looks alright at least it is all in place now all you need to do is develop the individual pages (left, center, and right) to get them the way you want you might want to look into maybe using framesets also.

What I'm talking about is to create an include file(s) separate from the page that I already have created. A whole new different file like "menu.inc"
The page that you looked at is named "welcome.php". I wanna create an ".inc" file
in Designer 2006.

The reason they are empty is because the file you have opened has no includes or include once or require or require once files contained in the file that you have open. So you have to have a file that does and then PHP Designer will see those files and in the document tree view they will show. It is a means of quickly opening a file that the file you are currently editing to see what is in that include or require file. Create a file called index.php like below.

Then create a header.php file

Then you would make a nav.php like the below.

And then you would make yet another php file called whatever but as shown abouve call it mainfile.php which would hold your main page. Then when you open the index file it would populate the folder include with the include files, but since there would be no include_once or require or require_once files then they would be empty.
