Thank you for pointing me in the direction of "URL rewriting", but I haven't been too happy with the googled responses.

Will doing the URL rewriting, cause the search engines like Google to no longer index my site?
Will the original page request be passed via the headers so that I can still parse and provide the requested page information?
Is this really the best method to do what I'm thinking that I want to do?

I always like to search before posting, but in this case, I'm not sure what to search on/for. Point me in the right direction, please... 😃

What I want to do is parse everything after the url as input without using the question mark ("?"). For example, http://www.puppyfiles.us/v1.0.8 (with or without a trailing slash) would be directed to http://www.puppyfiles.us/index.php where the v1.0.8 would become the input value to be acted upon.

I know its possible, but I don't know what it's called.

i think you are thinking about apache's module call mod_rewrite. where you can rewrite the URL to something better. cuz in PHP i think you kinda have to have the '?' in there in order to parse the URL

but i'm not sure. don't quote me lol

URL Re-writing will cause google to boost your page HIGHER in its results, because you will be preforming basic SEO operations by not passing query strings in page links.

You can pass your query string to your script files the same as you normally would, via syntax in your re-writing structure.

I happen to live about 30 minutes away from their headquarters (but only 20 minutes from AOL's headquarters -- I don't use either company). lol

Your posting answered my questions better than what I found via the search results I looked at. Thank you.

I'm going to keep this thread open as a means to further refine my questions after I've had a chance to try a few things.
