sessions and cookies question

just a simple question.

i am testing my user authentication scripts in my very very very basic CMS. and i've been trying to set the cookies. thing is that no matter what i do only the sessions stay and the cookies let go real easy. once i close IE or Opera it's gone and i can't stay persistant.

now i've been to many a site that has cookies and sessions (duh to the sessions) and i can stay logged in even if i close my broswer for days at a time.

my question is can i set the cookie on my server instead of the user's computer? is there a way to do that so that i can keep them logged in?

the code that sets your cookies is probably setting them to expire immediately. look in your code for setcookie() and read about setcookie() at php.net
