updating 20 rows in DB at once

Hi,

I have 20 fields of the same type(select fields) in a form. Each select field contains data from a different row in the database.

Please suggest how should I make the script to update the DB with the data from all the 20 rows at a time, not each field in part.

You did say update so here would be the SQL query syntax. I also assume you don't mean rows but columns in the database, but not knowing much more about your database structure this would update 1 row with ever how many columns of data in a table.

UPDATE tablename SET col=val, col=val, col=val, col=val,... WHERE condition(s)

Or for a PHP statement

$query="UPDATE tablename SET col=val, col=val,col=val, col=val,... WHERE condition(s)";

Thanks for your reply.
I meant exactly what I wrote: I need to update different rows (!! NOT columns).
I have a table with a few columns. 2 of these columns are ID (automatically incremented: 1,2,3,4.....) & Type. The column Type can have a value of 1,2,3,4 or 5.

Now on my page I have 20 selects in which I select the Type, for different IDs (the Type is different: from 1 to 5). I want to update the database for all the IDs on the page at once.

My DB table can be something like:

1 | 4 |
2 | 1 |
3 | 5 |
4 | 3 |
5 | 3 |
6 | 2 |
7 | 1 |
8 | 4 |
9 | 3 |
##########

Anyone has any suggestion about this? How to update all the ROWS in the column Type?

what you want is something like this:

UPDATE
table row1,
table row2,
...
table row20
SET
row1.value1 = 'value'
row1.value2 = 'value'
row2.value1 = 'value'
row2.value2 = 'value'
...
row20.value1 = 'value'
row20.value2 = 'value'
WHERE
row1.<condition> OR
row2.<condition> OR
...
row20.<condition>
