Dissapearing text

Ok this is really two questions about the same thing.

I want to declare a variable as

"C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache2\htdocs\testskatesite\images\"

To begin with the last \ cancels out my " .

The next thing that happened is the variable out puts as

C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache2\htdocs estskatesite\images

Why is there a space inbetween htdocs and the next bit.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

its because the backslash needs to be escaped with yet another \
try the following...
$var = "C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache2\htdocs\testskatesite\images\"';
that will definitely work. and you got a tab after htdocs because "\t" is a tab, just like \n in a newline and \r is a carraige return

Or you could use / instead like

$var = "C:\\Program Files/Apache Group/Apache2/htdocs/testskatesite/images/";

which even Windows machines will understand.

Or simply use an unparsed string by using sinqle quotes:

$var='C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache2\htdocs\testskatesite\images\';
