Hi there,

What Im would like to do is create a site that allows the user to add new feilds and tables to the db ie: creat new categories and sub categories.

In a sense have the user be able to make a never ending tree of information if they what.

I see the page with headers, categories, and sub categories under that, giving the user the option of expanding the db forever.

You create a dynamic database structure like:
table categories:
id | category

table subcategories:
id | cID | subcategory

or simillar where cID would be category id from categories table so user can add as many categories or subcategories as he wishes...

Before you go any further you should read this article on Sitepoint .

You are talking about hierachical data here and that is what that article is about. It explains the 2 main methods of doing this and give you the query code for using them.

The approach that you are talking about here will not work for several reasons, especially if you are going to allow users to create new table with whatever names etc they choose. All that will end up happening is that you will have thousands of tables that are lost in your db.
