any way to get ID3 before upload? Not your typical ID3 question!

I've searched around but haven't found an answer on this:

is there any way to get the ID3 tags off of an MP3 before a full upload?

What I'd like to be able to do is, once a user selects an MP3 for upload from their system, display something like "you are now uploading Beautiful Day by U2." I read up and saw that though ID3v1 might store the tag at the end of an MP3 file, ID3v2 usually stores it at the beginning so I was thinking maybe I could grab the first 4k or so of each selected file and extract the ID3 from that before a full upload. Does that sound possible? HELP!

I'm afraid not, not throug PHP at least. PHP may only process your song after it's fully uploaded. your concept is valid but you should take a look at java or flash, because then you'll be able to read the file on real time and tell the user what he's uploading whenever the uploader finds out
