Hey Guys I was wondering if anyone has had experience working as part of a collaborative design group or on any of the online bid for coding jobs sites such as Rent-A-Coder.com. I am looking to find project based work with PHP,SQL(most flavours), Flash, Website & Graphic design but I am unsure of the new oppertunities that these services can really offer. I was particularly interested in anyone with experience good or bad of these types of websites or collaborative design groups.

Thanx 😉

I've "freelanced" on getafreelancer.com. Be ready for low pay. I try to be very selective and only bid on projects where the client sounds like they have a grasp on what they want done. Can be good experience if you aren't too concerned about the $. Was a good learning experience but pimping myself directly to businesses (through contacts---hey its who you know, right?) has been most lucrative $ 😃 $

Surely more people have experience with these services?

      I want DIRT!

Well I've been on RentACoder for Ages and It seems a bit fruitless to me. I have joined on GetAFreelancer and it seems to have more REAL oppertunities but to be honest I get more work from my own volition than all these supposed internet websites and they do seem to just want to make a quick buck out of their users.

Still looking for my massive break project so that I can set up my company with a few of my mates but until then I'd advise everybody to talk with like-minded individuals down the pub or at social occasions and sometimes a friend of a friend works out much better for making money and developing a portfolio faster.

          if i were you..

i would start off with some free projects first. Ones that do not pay any cash, that way... you can say 'I have been here before, and know how the team coding structure works'. When $$ comes to play... I do not think you want to be doing it newb style.

try http://www.nightlance.com for example. They will cover everything you are looking for. PHP, MYSQL, image design and are still looking for people 🙂

unless you are going to be working in an office that is doing the project, it's basically going to be you doing your own thing int he guide lines of what the designer says for you to do. Most do NOT want to hold your hands and just expect you do get things done with no questions asked and as little hand holding as possible.

Bottom line. If you have bad XP. Learn from it, get over it, and get back in game.
