one file multiple directories

Hi All

I'm trying to create one empty/Blank index.php file but install it into every directory in its path,
IE .. I have 5000 directories within 26 directories (A thru Z) and i need to install a blank php file into each & every directory & 5000+ copy & paste's is a little excessive.

What OS are you using?

linux or windows i have both on different machines,
the server with the directories on is RH9 Linux

what about "cp -r sourcefile.php top-directory"

so am i right in thinking that will install a sourcefile.php in every directory i want it too A thru Z & everything in between ??
