[NEW] PHP.net Search

So, who has checked out the new php.net search feature? It's really nice!! No more google redirect. It's powered by Yahoo! search, but it's pretty nice. I heard they were going to get it working, didn't know when it was coming though. Glad they got it working though.

i personally hate when anyone out sources anything. if you are going to run your site.. use your stuff to do it.

i still like it better than going off php.net to go to google, to get redirected back to php.net....
This is better in some circumstances....

Although I agree with you that they should have written one theirself...

It looks better and is more conveinent, but i thought that php.net should of done it with php, since they are the masters.

Looks OK to me, I s'pose.

Took me a while to find it. Generally, I get the "woops! where you looking for $foo?", which is still the same as ever I recall...

Yeah, try going to php.net and using the online documentation search feature... that's what I'm talking about....

And yeah, would have been nice had they not copped out and used a Yahoo! search engine, but honestly: if it does the job, why not use it? There's no shame in it really. But it would have been nice to see something from php...

OK; my point was, if you know the name of the function you're looking for, you get PHP's search.

If you misspell a function, you get PHP's search.

If you search the "entire website for the string $foo", you get the thing you're talking about.

And, I don't know that I fault them for using Yahoo!'s search. Why reinvent the wheel? Plus, Yahoo! generally tends to be FOSS friendly ... although I don't like some things about their organization....

I don't fault them either, but it would have been nice to see what the PHP people could do for a search engine. That's what i had originally thought was going to happen: PHP developed their own internal search engine.

Oh well, it looks nice, and seems better.

My point was the function search has been the same since day-1 (of my searching). The online documentation for non-functions (like predefined variables, strings and the like) has been changed. That's what I was referring to. I guess I should have been more specific.
