[RESOLVED] Displaying text when there is no results...

Hello,

I am building a link exchange, and I really need help with the following.

On the left menu of my main page is a link exchange, it looks like this:
1) Your site here?
2) Your site here?
3) Your site here?
4) Your site here?
5) Your site here?
6) Your site here?
7) Your site here?
8) Your site here?
9) Your site here?
10) Your site here?
11) Your site here?
12) Your site here?
13) Your site here?
14) Your site here?
15) Your site here?

When you click "Your site here" it takes you to the sign up page. Once a site is signed up it will be listed in order by hits_in down the list. I'm not worried about the hits in or hits out code. I am just wondering this:

Say there is only 5 sites signed up, how do I make it so only the first 5 slots are filled and the rest say "Your site here"? Like this:

1) PHPBuilder
2) Google
3) MSN
4) Lycos
5) Yahoo
6) Your site here?
7) Your site here?
8) Your site here?
9) Your site here?
10) Your site here?
11) Your site here?
12) Your site here?
13) Your site here?
14) Your site here?
15) Your site here?

I asked this before but I didn't get a concrete answer, if someone could point me in the right direction it'd be great, Thanks alot!

that depends on what your code is producing. if it is producing an array then when you spin through the array to output the strings for the links, then you could check for the empty string, and if so then output a default value.

i was thinking of doing a

$select = "SELECT * FROM linkexchange ORDER BY hits_in";

while($row = mysql_fetch_array($select)) {
echo '$rank) $site_name';
$rank++;
}
else {
echo "Your site here?"
}

would that work or what should i do from there?

You want to use mysql_num_rows();

This will give you how many results you had. say you had 5 results and you wanted the other 10 to say Your Site Here...

$numRows=mysql_num_rows($result);

while(mysql_fetch_array($result){
//print the names
}

if($numRows<15){

   for($i = (15-$numRows); $i<15;$i++){
         //print "Your site here";
    }
}

Or something like that....you get the idea at least.

Hmm. Well, you've already got a $rank variable that counts the entries, so let's just use that. Instead of subtracting from 15, I normally count up to the limit, so here's what I'd do:

        $name = $le['name']; 
        $url = $le['url'];

    for(; $rank<=15; $rank++) { 
            echo $rank;

    }
