How to detect if user is surfing my site..

Hi guys,
How detect if user is surfing my site with a mobile phone?

It would really help me to optimize my big site to make the surfing(fast loading) easier for mobile users. If you guys have any idea, pls share with me.

hmmmm ..

i could be wrong but, im sure mobile phones have some sort of unique user agent ...

different from the common browser user agent's ...

so, you could find out if that's true, and run a test to see if the user is using one of the mobile phone user agents, if so, then load a different css file.

thanks for the reply, actually I thought the same way, but I really don't have a clue what is that browser agent type is.. thats what I'm trying to ask here...

Of course you could match HTTP_USER_AGENT against a load of manufacturers of mobile phones - but you then will still miss some of them.

Why not just make your site load faster for everybody?

Looks like you need to use preg_match and find occurances of the keyword "MMP".

Sorry about not providing more information in my previous post about using preg match, i was at work.

Brad's solution should work for you thought.

Also, he may be right in saying that preg match could be overkill.

You may be able to do this whole thing, much more easily with somthing more like www.php.net/strpos

Yes, a very good point indeed.

As of right now, the only string we are trying to match is "MMP 1.0" and "MMP 2.0" correct?

You know, im not sure, but the difference between MMP 1, and 2, might be great enough to render seperate pages for each.

This may be getting kind of advanced, but if MMP1 didnt support, lets say, Images embeded in pages (which im sure it does, this is just an example) then, using preg_match could prove to be the wrong solution b/c you would want different re-direct's based upon the version of MMP found.

In that case, using 2 strpos calls may be the best.

On a side note, i need to brush up on my matching skills ... ive never really got to that area in depth.
