PDF: What's the best solution?

I'd like to start generating PDF files via PHP, but I'd rather not spend $450 on pdflib. The files I'll be creating (to start with) are invoices, so they contain tables, etc. My server is running PHP v. 4.3.2.

I've seen a couple alternative solutions out there, but most seem fairly old at this point. What have people found to be the best solution for generating PDF files in PHP?

Google on PDF and php and I think you'll find plenty - there's been a good amount lately regarding the two together.

I recommend PDFCuteWriter. Its free to download, do a quick google search.

No matter what program your using when you need to turn it into a PDF document just go to 'Print' and instead of selecting a printer choose CuteWriter. Real simple and free.

Or use OpenOffice. Might be a bit complex though. You'd have to write a macros in OOo that would interface with you database, populate data into a spreadsheet for you and then create a PDF from it. You'd call the macro from php using exec().

Complicated maybe, but definitely works. I do it like that (but also because i use OOo for many other things).
