[RESOLVED] firefox asking to save php doc?

I have an RSS feed being dynamically rendered using PHP and MySQL. In firefox, clicking the link causes a prompt window to come up asking if i want to open or save the php file as opposed to just following the link.

Why does this happen and how can I prevent it?

PS. I'm setting the Content type to application/rss+xml

That doesn't appear to be a current media type. http://www.iana.org/assignments/media-types/

it is, trust me. i just found an article though that says mozilla prompts this by default. it also offers a solution.

If IANA don't list it it is not a current regested media type trust me.

And in your article it tells you what to do. The fact that someone write something does not make it so, there is no application type rss+xml
Indeed, since rss feeds are xml by nature, such an application type would be an oxymoron.

so would application/rdf+xml would be more appropriate then? the feed validates with the rss+xml content type and numerous sources site this method as acceptable (though as you said doesn't mean it's completely true).

the original problem i noted though appears to be a bug in certain browsers with mozilla.

Why do so many people make this stupid comment. If Mozilla has a certain behaviour that other user-agents don't exhibit it is normally because Mozilla is following the current standards and the other user-agents are not.

woah there, tough guy. settle down. you're not being helpful, and it seems many other people agree this is something that mozilla user-agents needs to consider an issue. im not making this stuff up.

A quick search brings up someone musing about RSS Content Type.

It seems to be that there is no standardisation on this yet, but for RSS 1.0 there's also application/rdf+xml

On these lines, for RSS 2.0, I might suggest text/xml or application/xml to keep to available media types.

I get this same open and save dialog for the .php extension.

I've been working to resolve this and think it is a missing library in apache or something in the registry but don't know which. I'm on w2k pro.
