Looking for a specific script, or help with it.

Hi guys, I have been searching for weeks now with no luck, so time to bring it to the masses!!

I need to find a script that will allow users to submit their URL to my site and be displayed in a column. Along with that I would like it to have a hit counter to show how many times that link has been clicked. A good example of what I would like is on this site..... http://www.lookom.com/ . On the righthand side of the page is what I would like.

If anybody knows of a script out there, or can guide me in finding one that would be great! I am fairly good at modifying PHP scripts but I dont have enough knowledge yet to write something of that caliber on my own.

You really don't need PHP to make up the page you described. You should start with plain old html.

And while the page you referenced is done with a lot of complex frames, javascript, and cascading style sheets, you can start out by building a much simpler model with tables by using a WYSIWYG editor like Front Page or Macromedia.

As a start you might make up a page and position your list of URL's in a table column on the right side. Later on you can imbed the IMG tags within the anchors so that they will follow the link when clicked on.

When you've got that working, you can then consider making a hit counter for each of these images with PHP.

Drop a line when you get that far.

Ok, so if you check out www.mitchweber.info now, I did get a script setup to submit links.

How would I go about adding a hit counter on each one? if you need to see the source, do a search for dslinker 1.4

The major purpose of forums like this is to help people learn about the subject.

If you're not willing to write the html, why would you expect someone else to write the php for you?

I guess I'm not sure what you mean exactly by that comment. I edited that code to work for my site, with a decent amount of customizing it. Also, i wrote that entire site server side using SSH terminal. So its not like im just copying and pasting everything on there. I know html inside and out. PHP is a little different.

I'm trying to learn PHP and I dont have a very good idea where to start in that script to add a counter.

Recognize that I view copying another persons website page and then modifying it without permission is equivalent to intellectual theft or plagiarism..

Under these circumstances, I am not willing to help you in embellishing the theft.

If you build your own pages, I'll be happy to help you with the php work.

Otherwise maybe you should look for other resources.

What did i steal? I said i wanted something LIKE what that guy has on his site.

I found a FREE script that does something similar to that, and now im wondering how I can modify it to add a link hit counter.

If you think thats theft by downloading an opensource php script you need to check your definition of theft.

Sorry, i wont ask any more questions on how to do stuff.
