Setting up a testing server on home network

Hi all,

I hope I'm posting this in the correct forum.

At home I have a desktop and a laptop. I have installed a wireless network with a modem/router. There are four LAN ports on the router, and I have been given an old desktop which I fancy connecting to the network.

I would like to install LAMP on the machine, and use it to test php and mysql applicatoins that I build (and perhaps as a file server also).

Can anyone point me in the right direction?
