Is it generally a good or bad practice to index more than one column in a table?

I have an 8 field table and would like to index 3 of the fields since their integer types. (so it indexes faster).

I'd hate normalize and extract those 3 integer fields and put them in another table.

generally speaking, you should index any field(s) or combinations of fields that come up in the WHERE clauses of your queries.
