User Login Re-Directing

Hello,

I have what is probably a very simple and much asked question.
Please note that i am not very learned in php - infact I only discovered yesterday.

The reason I discoverd php is because I'm building a wesbite for my new endevour, and the homepage of my new site requires a LOGIN for my clients.

I spent all yesterday learning about php, MySQL databases, creating them & tables, and connecting to all this in dreamweaver... after much toil and frought, victory seemed in sight... I actually got it all working!

I could create usernames and passwords... and log-into my homepage all day long.
Marvelous!

However I sharply realised that my excitment was premature because the whole thing was useless I could direct each client to a personal / individual webpage upon LOGIN.

So each client would type in a user and password and go to a nice cushy personal webpage where they can download updates and previews etc.

(Instead of all arriving at the same page)

I have since found that to do this requires coding, through my Webshell3 control panel with my host.

This is where I'm completely and uttlerly stuck... and hopefully with some great kindness some one here will help me....? :-D

I need to learn so I can do it over and over for new clients?

Upon successfull login youll need to do somthing like

header("Location: /personal_page.php?u=$user");
exit;

$user would need to be defined by the login name

$user = $_POST['username'];

From a quick look at the Dreamweaver code, you need to edit the line that says

$MM_redirectLoginSuccess = "login_success.htm";

so that it redirects to a PHP page instead (e.g. personal_page.php). Then you need to have code on personal_page.php that gets the user's name from the previous page, fetches his or her details from a database table and customises itself for that user.

If you've never done this sort of thing before, especially if you're relying on computer-generated code, I'd set aside a few days to learn about how these things work, especially some of the security issues involved. Study other people's login systems as well; there's quite a good example on this site:

If you're really desperate to get this done quickly, pay someone else to help you. That's probably only fair, given that setting all this up so it works smoothly isn't a trivial job.
